The breathtaking Chipurson Valley in Gojal, Hunza, recently hosted an exhilarating ice hockey tournament as part of the Baba Ghundi Winter Sports Festival 2025 (Season 2). The event, organized by the Zood Khun Winter Sports Club, brought together the spirit of sportsmanship, thrilling competition, and the icy beauty of Gilgit-Baltistan’s majestic winter landscape.

Tournament Highlights:

The tournament, held from 31st January to 2nd February 2025, took place at the Zood Khun Chipurson Ice Hockey Rink, situated at an impressive altitude of 10,995 feet above sea level. This elevation not only added a unique challenge for the players but also offered a stunning backdrop of snow-capped peaks and frozen landscapes.

A total of 12 teams from across Gilgit-Baltistan participated, showcasing exceptional talent and fierce competition. The participating clubs included:

1. Ghulkin Winter Club
2. Phander Winter Sports Club
3. Passu Youth and Sports Organization
4. Shimshal Winter Club
5. Shitmerg Winter Club
6. Zood Khun Winter Sports Club

Exciting Matches and Final Showdowns:

The tournament was filled with nail-biting matches, with teams battling fiercely on the ice to secure their place in the finals. The enthusiasm of both players and spectators created an electrifying atmosphere throughout the festival.

In the female category, the final match saw an intense face-off between Ghulkin Winter Club and the local favorites, Zood Khun Leopards. After a thrilling game, Ghulkin Winter Club emerged victorious, showcasing remarkable skills and teamwork.

In the male category, the final clash was equally exciting, with Ghulkin Winter Club taking on  Phander Ibex. The match kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle, with Ghulkin Winter Club securing another impressive victory, completing a double triumph in both male and female categories.

A Celebration of Sports and Culture:

The Baba Ghundi Winter Sports Festival 2025 wasn’t just about ice hockey; it was a vibrant celebration of Chipurson’s rich culture, resilience, and love for winter sports. The festival played a vital role in promoting winter sports in the region, encouraging youth participation, and fostering camaraderie among communities.
